Section 9 - Reserve

A. RESERVE LINES

1. A Reserve Flight Attendant shall be scheduled for twelve (12) days free from duty at her/his domicile each bid period.

2. When a Reserve Line is posted for bid it shall contain days off in blocks of not less than two days.

a. Three (3) days off in each Reserve Line may be designated by the Company as Movable Days. Movable Days can be changed by the Company only by positive contact with the Flight Attendant. Once a Movable Day is changed, it becomes a Golden Day, and must be adjacent to another day off unless otherwise mutually agreed between the Flight Attendant and Crew Resources.

b. The remainder of the days off shall be Golden Days. Golden Days and Movable Days shall be denoted as such in Reserve Lines when posted for bid. A Reserve Flight Attendant shall not be junior assigned or otherwise scheduled for duty on Golden Days, unless the Flight Attendant voluntarily accepts an assignment on a Golden Day(s), or as provided in Paragraph 2.c., below.

c. If a flight assignment is scheduled to result in a Reserve Flight Attendant being released no later than 0200 on her/his day off, that Flight Attendant will not be considered to have lost her/his calendar day off. An additional two (2) hours will be added to that calendar day off or, where there is a group of days off, to the last calendar day in that group.

3. In the event a Flight Attendant has not received one (1) or more of her/his twelve (12) minimum days off, and the Flight Attendant has no more days of availability in the bid period to be converted to Golden Days, at the Flight Attendant’s option, she/he will receive the following:

a. Pay and credit in addition to the minimum monthly guarantee in lieu of the day(s) off, to be paid with the exceptions for the bid period in which the day(s) was lost; or

      1. The Flight Attendant shall receive an additional day(s) off of her/his choice adjacent to an existing day(s) off in the next bid period. The rescheduled day(s) off shall then become a Golden Day(s). Crew Resources will not be required to place a rescheduled day(s) off on New Years Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.
      2.

      3. If the Flight Attendant becomes a lineholder in the next bid period and is owed a day off from the previous bid period, she/he will be released from the first or last duty period(s) of the trip of her/his choice in the bid period in which she/he is a lineholder. Provided, however, Crew Resources will not be required to release the Flight Attendant from duty periods on New Years Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. The Flight Attendant will be pay protected for the dropped trip or portion of the trip. If the trip cannot be split, the Flight Attendant will, at her/his option:

1. be on GR for the remaining days of the trip;

2. pick up a comparable trip on the remaining days if available; or

3. staffing permitting, be released without pay for any or all of the remaining days of the trip.

4. There will be Reserve Lines that contain Golden Day(s) on holidays and weekends.

B. RESERVE DUTY

1. Reserve on-call times are as follows:

a. Reserve Duty A: 0100 - 1300

b. Reserve Duty B: 0700 - 1900

c. Reserve Duty C: 1500 - 0300

2. Based on operational and staffing needs, a Flight Attendant may be required to report outside the applicable window.

C. ASSIGNMENT OF RESERVE DUTY

1. Crew Resources will assign a Flight Attendant to Reserve Duty A, Reserve Duty B, Reserve Duty C, Airport Ready Reserve or a trip by 1600 on the day prior to the duty. Crew Resources may reschedule a Flight Attendant from one Reserve Duty assignment to another so long as it schedules her/him for a minimum rest of eight (8) hours between on call periods. Such Flight Attendant will be given a minimum of two (2) hours within which to report.

2. If Crew Resources determines that it is necessary to change a Reserve Flight Attendant’s on call status (e.g., from Reserve Duty A to Reserve Duty C), calls to change that status will be made by Crew Resources between 0700 and 2300 local time.

3. A Reserve Flight Attendant may have a standing bid on file with the Company indicating her/his reserve assignment preference (i.e., Reserve Duty A, Reserve Duty B or Reserve Duty C). Preferences for reserve assignments will be honored in seniority order, to the extent possible (e.g., consideration will be given to legalities, days of availability and qualifications).

D. ASSIGNMENT OF TRIPS/AIRPORT READY RESERVE SHIFTS

1. All known open time will be assigned to Reserve Flight Attendants between 0500 and 1600 on the day prior to the trip’s departure. Time which becomes open later may be assigned at any time.

2. A Reserve Flight Attendant may not be assigned a trip which is scheduled to overlap into Golden Days, unless the flight assignment is scheduled for release at domicile no later than 0200 on the Golden Day.

3. Under normal operating conditions, the Company will both notify and assign a Flight Attendant to a trip or an Airport Ready Reserve shift which reports within that Flight Attendant’s Reserve Duty time window A, B, or C. If operational or staffing needs require the Company to do otherwise, it may notify and/or assign the Flight Attendant to a trip or an Airport Ready Reserve shift reporting outside that window, but shall do so in the following order:

a. to a Flight Attendant on Reserve Availability that day, where the assignment would not interfere with any of her/his days off; and then

b. to a Flight Attendant on Reserve Availability that day, where the assignment would not interfere with her/his Golden Days off;

c. provided, however, the Company may elect to use Volunteer Fly, and then, Junior Assign, prior to making a reserve assignment.

4. Under normal operating conditions, the Company shall assign trips or Airport Ready Reserve shifts to Flight Attendants within a particular Reserve Duty time window by first considering days of availability, legalities and qualifications (e.g., language qualification). If the Company determines that more than one Flight Attendant is eligible for an assignment based on these factors, it shall give the assignment to the Flight Attendant with the least credit hours.

5. If irregular operations cause a Flight Attendant’s duty period to be extended for more than two (2) hours into her/his Golden Day(s) (e.g., 0201), such Flight Attendant will be released from all duty for the remainder of the day she/he returns to domicile. An additional Golden Day(s) will be added to the end of the original block of Golden Days, or at another time mutually agreed upon between Crew Resources and the Flight Attendant. If the Flight Attendant has no more days of availability in the bid period to be converted to a Golden Day(s), or if Crew Resources and the Flight Attendant cannot reach mutual agreement on another day off the options shown in Paragraph A.3., above, will apply.

6. If a Flight Attendant is assigned to duty on a Movable Day(s) pursuant to the reserve assignment provisions of this Section, or due to irregular operations, the day(s) off will be rescheduled as Golden Day(s) at the time of assignment to another time in the bid period mutually agreed upon between the Flight Attendant and Crew Resources. If the Flight Attendant has no more days of availability in the bid period to be converted to a Golden Day(s), or if Crew Resources and the Flight Attendant cannot reach mutual agreement on another day(s) off, then the options shown in Paragraph A.3., above, will apply.

7. When an assignment is given to a Reserve Flight Attendant, Crew Resources will identify the published pairing number. If it is an unpublished trip pairing, the Flight Attendant will be notified of the entire trip pairing, including routing, duty time; trip number(s); aircraft type; report time; and release time. If the layover hotel is different from the standard, the Flight Attendant will also be notified of the contact number and any special transportation arrangements.

E. AIRPORT READY RESERVE

1. Airport Ready Reserve duty may be assigned on an equitable basis to Reserve Flight Attendants. Designated locations will be provided for this purpose.

2. Duties of an Airport Ready Reserve are limited to those assigned to other Flight Attendants.

3. Under normal operations, an Airport Ready Reserve will be required to standby at the airport for no more than five (5) hours from the later of scheduled or actual report to duty as an Airport Ready Reserve. If operational and staffing needs require, an Airport Ready Reserve’s standby time may be extended to ten (10) hours or until the last flight departs, whichever is earlier.

a. Prior to release, an Airport Ready Reserve may be assigned any trip she/he is legal to fly, provided the trip does not interfere with her/his Golden Days, except as provided in D.1. of this Section.

b. An Airport Ready Reserve must contact Crew Resources upon completion of an Airport Ready Reserve shift, and request to be released. An Airport Ready Reserve who has not received an assignment or been extended prior to the end of her/his Airport Ready Reserve shift will be released for domicile rest in accordance with Section 5, Hours of Service, Paragraph E.2.

c. Duty time for an Airport Ready Reserve starts at scheduled or actual check in, whichever is later.

d. Pay and credit for Airport Ready Reserve duty is one (1) for two (2) until report time for an assigned trip or until release. This pay and credit is in addition to any pay and credit for any trip assignment.

F. RELEASE FROM DUTY

1. A Reserve Flight Attendant assigned a trip on the day prior to the trip’s commencement shall complete her/his Reserve duty for that day. At the time of assignment, Crew Resources, based on operational and staffing needs, may release the Reserve Flight Attendant.

2. A Reserve Flight Attendant assigned a trip on the same day the trip is scheduled to commence may, based on operational and staffing needs, be released by Crew Resources from all duty until report time.

3. Upon completion of Reserve Duty A, Reserve Duty B, or Reserve Duty C, a Reserve Flight Attendant will automatically be released if she/he has not been assigned a trip or an Airport Ready Reserve shift. (This Paragraph does not affect Crew Resources’ ability to reschedule a Reserve Flight Attendant pursuant to Paragraph C.1, above).

4. Upon completion of a trip or an Airport Ready Reserve shift, and prior to departing from the airport, the Reserve Flight Attendant must contact Crew Resources.

5. A Reserve Flight Attendant may request a temporary release while on call-out status by contacting Crew Resources. It is at the discretion of the Company whether to grant such a release request.
